Is this a good deal?
As a demo, we did a search for a three night stay between 7 February and 10 February at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square. The Emirates Skywards Offer only seems to apply to the higher revenue Executive and Suite Rooms. These rooms come with access to the hotel's Executive Lounge, which would provide you with additional complementary benefits such a continental breakfast, midday snacks, afternoon tea, hors d'oeuvres, dessert, late night snacks, and complimentary beverages including soft drinks and a selection of beer and wine in the evening.
These were the prices found for an Executive Room (inclusive of VAT):
- Advance Booking, Marriott Rewards Member, Non-Refundable: 257GBP/night
- Emirates Skywards Offer, Marriott Rewards Member, Refundable: 299GBP/night
- Best Available Rate, Marriott Rewards Member, Refundable: 367GBP/night
We've only compared Marriott Rewards Member rates as you have to be one to take advantage of the Emirates Skywards Offer.
The complimentary Wi-Fi for the Emirates Skywards Offer is a bit of a moot point if you're already a Marriott Rewards member, as this is a standard benefit even for the most basic member who has never stayed at the chain before.
As you can see above, this offer has value if you want flexibility in your booking up to the day before check-in (or you are booking close to the date of check-in and the advance booking rates are no longer available), you want to treat yourself to a nicer room, and you're in need of the extra 2000 miles. You'd save yourself 204GBP over the three nights. Otherwise, if your dates are fixed, and you don't need a refundable rate, sign up as a Marriott Rewards Member and you'd save yourself 330GBP compared to the normal Best Available Rate!
The prices and difference between rates may vary between the different London hotels listed above so make sure you do a comparison like I did to make sure you're getting the best deal.
It should also be noted that Visa have a special offer on for stays until the 3 September 2017 where if you book with your Visa card at select Marriott hotels in Europe you'll receive free breakfast. This is a non-refundable rate and only seems to be available on the lowest category rooms. At the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square, these were 204GBP/night. You'll have to think whether the nicer room and Executive Lounge access is worth an extra 53-95GBP/night. Depends on how many free drinks you think you can consume each night! For two people, we'd definitely stick with the Executive Room.
